Hull & Deck

Cape Dorys are known for their excellent construction. The boat is assembled out of four molds - a hull with an inner liner and a deck with an inner liner - which make it a sound and sturdy sailor in heavy weather as well as an elegant home with its fine combination of molded fiberglass and teak carpentry.

The CD 27 lines were drawn by Carl A. Alberg. The moderate full keel with a flatter front portion provides good performance without any compromise in its traditional concept of a seaworthy design. Still - under sail it proofed to master difficult passages averaging hull speed.
A decent use of some Teak-work on the exterior supports the classic look but also keeps maintenance to a minimum.
Cape Dories own foundries bronze portlights are - after 30 years without any service - still watertight. As now manufactured by Spartan Marine service parts would also be available.
A sturdy dodger (2003) comfortable extends the main cabin into the cockpit and provides shelter in any weather condition - at anchor or under sail.
The hull proved to be in excellent conditions with no sign of blisters when all prior paint below the waterline was removed in January 2005. A barrier coat and Trinidad bottom paint was applied to its gelcoat.
