Cape Dorys are known for their excellent construction. The boat is assembled out of four molds - a hull with an inner liner and a deck with an inner liner - which make it a sound and sturdy sailor in heavy weather as well as an elegant home with its fine combination of molded fiberglass and teak carpentry. |

| The CD 27 lines were drawn by Carl A. Alberg. The moderate full keel with a flatter front portion provides good performance without any compromise in its traditional concept of a seaworthy design. Still - under sail it proofed to master difficult passages averaging hull speed. | ![]() |

| Cape Dories own foundries bronze portlights are - after 30 years without any service - still watertight. As now manufactured by Spartan Marine service parts would also be available. | |
| A sturdy dodger (2003) comfortable extends the main cabin into the cockpit and provides shelter in any weather condition - at anchor or under sail. | |
| The hull proved to be in excellent conditions with no sign of blisters when all prior paint below the waterline was removed in January 2005. A barrier coat and Trinidad bottom paint was applied to its gelcoat. | |
